Getting started after deploying code-server

After you create a code-server 1-Click Droplet you need to:

  1. Login into the Droplet and grab the password from /etc/code-server/pass
  2. Visit the Droplet's IP in the browser.
  3. Enter the password when prompted.
  4. Enjoy VS Code in the cloud :)

If you want to change the password, edit /etc/code-server/pass and then restart the code-server systemd unit. Authentication will now use the new password in /etc/code-server/pass.

If you get stuck or need help, file an issue, email us or visit our discord.

API Creation

In addition to creating a Droplet from the code-server 1-Click App via the control panel, you can also use the DigitalOcean API.

As an example, to create a 4GB code-server Droplet in the SFO2 region, you can use the following curl command. You’ll need to either save your API access token to an environment variable or substitute it into the command below.

  curl -X POST -H 'Content-Type: application/json' \
       -H 'Authorization: Bearer '$TOKEN'' -d \
      '{"name":"choose_a_name","region":"sfo2","size":"s-2vcpu-4gb","image":"code-server-18-04"}' \
      "https://api.digitalocean.com/v2/droplets"
