VERSION 14

OS Ubuntu 18.04

Create Onion Routed Cloud Droplet

Description

Help support the backbone of the ORC network by running an ORC server. You'll be storing, replicating, and serving encrypted file shards anonymously and with zero-knowledge. In addition, you'll be able to upload and download files on the network using your server's web application and API via Tor Browser.

Software Included

ORC14AGPL-3.0
Nodejs10MIT

Getting started after deploying Onion Routed Cloud

This ORC 1-Click App requires a minimum 2GB RAM in order to operate correctly. Please choose an appropriate Droplet size when creating your ORC server.

Once your Droplet is created, you must SSH into it. On first login, you will be prompted to install/upgrade to the latest ORC release. After the installation completes, you'll be asked to supply a passphrase to encrypt your private key.

Note that after installation is complete, it can take up to several hours to mine a network identity, during which your node will be unavailable. This is to prevent abuse. If you are a volunteer running a node to support the network, you're finished!

If you are a journalist, looking to use the node remotely, once online, you can access your node's web interface via Tor Browser, by navigating to the hidden service URL found in "/etc/orc/bridge.tor/hidden_service/hostname", but this file won't exist until your identity is mined and your node is online.

API Creation

In addition to creating a Droplet from the Onion Routed Cloud 1-Click App via the control panel, you can also use the DigitalOcean API.

As an example, to create a 4GB Onion Routed Cloud Droplet in the SFO2 region, you can use the following curl command. You’ll need to either save your API access token to an environment variable or substitute it into the command below.

  curl -X POST -H 'Content-Type: application/json' \
       -H 'Authorization: Bearer '$TOKEN'' -d \
      '{"name":"choose_a_name","region":"sfo2","size":"s-2vcpu-4gb","image":"deadcanaries-onionroutedcloud-18-04"}' \
      "https://api.digitalocean.com/v2/droplets"
