Description

OpenVPN Access Server delivers the enterprise VPN your business has been looking for. Protect your data communications, secure IoT resources, and provide encrypted remote access to on-premise, hybrid, and public cloud resources.

Access Server provides you with a powerful and easy-to-use web-based admin site that makes VPN management and configuration simple enough for anybody (with or without Linux knowledge). Access Server integrates OpenVPN server capabilities, enterprise access management, and OpenVPN Client software packages that accommodate Windows, MAC, Linux, and mobile OS (Android and iOS) environments.

Our licensing model is based on the number of active VPN connections — allowing us to provide businesses of any size with an affordable and scalable solution. Access Server is free to install and use for 2 simultaneous VPN connections for testing purposes.

Getting started after deploying OpenVPN Access Server

Deployment steps

  1. Log on via SSH to start the setup procedure, you will be asked a number of questions that need to be answered.
  2. Once that is complete, enter the command "passwd openvpn" to set a password for your Access Server.
  3. Now open the address of your server in a web browser, for example: https://123.45.67.89/admin/
  4. If you see any SSL certificate warnings, that is normal, please override them.
  5. Now log on with username 'openvpn' and the password you set in step 2.You can now start using your OpenVPN Access Server by adding users in the User Permissions table, and by checking and adjusting settings as needed in the VPN Settings page. By visiting the Access Server address without the /admin in the URL in your web browser, you can then log in as a user and obtain the required software and settings to get connected. There is documentation available on our website:

API Creation

In addition to creating a Droplet from the OpenVPN Access Server 1-Click App via the control panel, you can also use the DigitalOcean API.

As an example, to create a 4GB OpenVPN Access Server Droplet in the SFO2 region, you can use the following curl command. You’ll need to either save your API access token to an environment variable or substitute it into the command below.

  curl -X POST -H 'Content-Type: application/json' \
       -H 'Authorization: Bearer '$TOKEN'' -d \
      '{"name":"choose_a_name","region":"sfo2","size":"s-2vcpu-4gb","image":"openvpn-18-04"}' \
